Engine oil for a 12 HP Kohler engine?

 Hi I have an old iron Kohler engine type and it is 12 hp. I am using 5 / 30 and I have with it is a little thin for what type of motor oil should I use? Any comments would be appreciated.

 What is a profit amount of compression for a 12 hp kohler engine. MY engine has 55 pounds and i was wondering if that was enough. any feedback would be appreciated.

 55 seems okay to run. It wont torture to have it higher, but for a lawnmower engine, it should be okay.
