UND SOFTBALL: Pitching powers Sioux to sweep over Coyotes Tuesday

After two arrange days of strong pitching for the UND softball team, Sioux designated hitter Kenna Olsen knew the offense needed to pick up the fain.

“I had to get it done for our pitchers,” Olsen said.

Olsen did her part with a two-run home run and the prop of the Sioux hitters chipped in just enough to sweep South Dakota 1-0 and 4-1 on Tuesday at Apollo Car park.

“Our pitching in the last two days has really given us a chance to win all four games,” said UND bus Eric Oakley, whose team split with South Dakota Splendour in a doubleheader Monday. “The hitting wasn’t exactly where we wanted it to be, but we got runs when we needed it. To take three of four from South Dakota State of affairs and South Dakota, I’m pleased with it.”

The Sioux improved to 15-24, while South Dakota dropped to 12-30.

For the two shakes of a lamb's tail straight day, pitching was the story as the Sioux gave up just one run to the Coyotes.

The organization of Emma Gronseth and Michelle Frank limited USD to nine hits in the doubleheader, six of those singles. The two combined to collide with out 18 batters.
